Genre: Historical Romance/Regency
About to turn thirty, Charles Finch finally realizes his luck has run out. He’s twenty thousand pounds in debt, his entire family hates him, and the powerful Duke of Rutley is watching his every move. So Charles sets out to do what any handsome but impoverished earl would: find a young lady with an impressive dowry to marry him and replenish his coffers.
Louisa Strickland much prefers managing the successful estate her father left her to the company of society. But now that her younger sister has come of age, Louisa finds herself in Mayfair, forced to protect her family from desperate fortune hunters like her neighbor, Charles Finch. And when Charles sets his sights on Louisa’s sister, Louisa will do anything to avert his attention elsewhere.
As Charles and Louisa find themselves rekindling an old friendship that once went up in flames, Charles begins to wonder if there could be something more between them. He only needs to prove he’s not the man he once was. But unfortunately for Charles, it will take much more than passionate kisses and giving up brandy to convince independent Louisa to marry a rake like him.

I just love Becky Michaels, so much. If ever there was an author who put the word “fun” in Regency novels, it’s this author. (Realizes belatedly that the word ‘fun’ is not in the word ‘regency’ whatsoever. Ah well. I’m sticking with my story.)
A Rake Like You is the second book in the “Linfield Hall” series, and just as expected, I loved every inch of it. The story follows Viscount Charles, who has racked up some hefty debts with his wild and wooly ways. His neighbor, Louisa Strickland, owns the estate that she inherited from her father. She also happens to have a younger sister, Flora, who has a sizeable dowry. Louisa fears that men such as Charles will take advantage of Flora, to get their hands on her dowry. Thus Louisa begins to do what she can, to keep Charles away from her sister. The problem however, is that Charles and Louisa have some unresolved feelings towards one another, that are refusing to stay hidden. But can Charles ever be trusted?
Once again, I love how Becky Michaels blended a story of depth with lightheartedness. The setting was easy to jump into, the story moved along at a lovely pace, and the characters grew right along with the plot. Charles was pretty much impossible not to thoroughly enjoy. Yes, he had a cringy history, I admit. But as things progressed and I was able to get to know him better, I couldn’t help but love the man. Louisa took me a bit longer…okay, a lot longer…to warm up to. I found her to be cold at first; slightly off-putting. I didn’t care for the way she handled certain things, or the way she related to specific family members. But by the time I reached the end of the book, I found myself rooting for Louisa and pushing her towards Charles.
Bottom Line: A feel-good read with a cast of cozy characters. A perfect way to ring in Autumn!
