France, 799 A.D. The Northmen sacked the monastery at dawn, before anyone had awakened. They burned the village and slaughtered all who stood in their path. The relics of Saint Philbert were lost, and the island was abandoned by those who once dwelled there.
Years later, the monk Abriel – survivor of the same attack as a young boy – is sent to recover the relics to help restore the reputation and legitimacy of Saint Philbert. What he discovers on his journey changes his life forever.
Northmen had colonized the island in the absence of the monks. They hold the key to finding the relics, but they have greater plans for Abriel, plans that will take him to the North to find his destiny.
“Adrien’s novel is a well thought out, deeply researched narrative that marries history with young adult fiction. In a time where females are popular among the young adult sector, this male focused novel is a welcome reprieve and appeals to a need for an action packed novel.” – Portland Book Review
“A well-written tale with vividly imagined characters.” – Trevor Schmidt, author of The Corsair Uprising series.
My Review: It is no secret that I live for Viking novels. Therefore, I don’t need to explain to you that I jumped at the chance to read The Line of His People. Or that, in my attempt to quickly request the book, I typed about 4,182 words per minute. Or that I only lasted about three days before emailing the Blog Tour Coordinator to see if the book was ready to be sent out yet. Nor do I need to tell you that, when the book arrived, I told my kids to spend the day snacking, because I was going to be buried in a book all day and had zero time for cooking. (Mom of the Year, folks. Mom of the Year.)
I am always a little leary when I receive a book that is written for Young Adults. (I know, that sounds awful. I just want my books to be…I don’t know, grown up? Mature? Or something? I’m just going to stop talking, now.) Seriously, I needn’t have worried. The genre for this book should say something like, “Seriously Awesome Viking Novel Minus the Unnecessary Sex Scenes.” I’m not even kidding. The characters are amazingly developed, the storyline is fast-paced and complex. There’s action, some violence (this is a Viking novel), accurate historical research and some seriously beautiful writing.
Also? It’s a series!! I’m halfway through the second book and can’t wait to share it with you! Highly recommend for all fans!
